Mrs Campbell is the Curriculum Leader for RE.
In all phases of school we follow the Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Syllabus for Religious Education and work in partnership with our Diocese to ensure a high quality RE curriculum offer.
RE in the Early Years Curriculum
In Nursery and Reception, our curriculum is based on the EYFS framework document, 'Development Matters’ and the Diocesan Syllabus for Religious Education. For Nursery children, we have identified key skills in each area for us to focus on, whilst in Reception we have identified skills to teach and develop during each half-term to progress towards meeting the Early Learning Goals and children having an understanding of religions and non-religious beliefs.
RE aligns most closely with the EYFS area of:
Understanding the World
RE in KS1 and KS2
Throughout KS1 and KS2 the curriculum follows a 'spiral' model so that it is sequenced well and progressive. The purpose of RE is to ensure children develop their own view of the world and develop their skills of being a theologist, philosopher and social/human scientist. We share knowledge organisers with children, parents and carers so that key curriculum knowledge is shared.
Please refer to the Religious Education Policy to view an overview of the RE long term plan.
