Welcome to Year Three
'Life in all Fullness' - John 10:10
Year 3 is a very exciting first step into life in KS2. Mrs Harland and Mrs Hall teach the Y3 class. Mrs Harland and Mrs Hall are very experienced teachers and have worked at William Cassidi for a long time - they have taught some of the parents of our current children. Mrs Hall has previously worked in Y6 for a number of years and understands the 'end point' of KS2, which is benefical to the children in Y3. Mrs Harland has a lot of previous experience in KS1 and so understands the prior learning of children befoe they arrive in the Y3 setting. Throughout their time in Y3, the children learn about a variety of topics; further details of topics can be found below.
In Y3, the children also start their swimming lessons, which consist of blocks of lessons for 2 weeks at a time. The children learn how to swim and how to keep themselves safe in water. As the children begin to access their KS2 curriculum, they receive weekly French lessons from Mr Tinjod, who is a French specialist. During French the children focus on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
During Y3 the children become much more independent around the school, for example, they line up at lunch time when their class is named rather than being brought to the hall by their class teacher. The children also enter and exit school via the KS2 door rather than their classroom door so that they fully experience the shift from KS1 to KS2. This is essential so that by the time the children leave us at the end of KS2, they feel well prepared and confident for secondary school.
